Breckenridge is the most populous city in Summit County, Colorado. The wide range of activities attracts tourists at any time of the year and makes the inhabitants of this region never bored.  

One of the most popular ski resorts in the world Breckenridge Ski Resort has long been known as the Mecca of downhill skiing and snowboarding with 5 peaks, 2,908 acres of skiing, 187 trails, four terrain parks, and the highest chairlift in North America. It also has some of the highest average annual snowfall in Colorado. No wonder so many people identify Breckenridge as their favorite ski resort in Colorado.    

 Founded in 1859, this old mining town is one of the oldest continually occupied Colorado mountain towns. Gold was first discovered along the Blue River, creating a gold rush. Over 350 historic structures remain, including Gold Pan Saloon, which still proudly stands as the oldest continuously-operated bar west of the Mississippi.

By 1960, the population of Breckenridge had dwindled to a mere 393 residents. Facing a real threat of becoming a ghost town, Rounds and Porter Lumber Company of Wichita, Kansas issued a permit for a new ski area in Breckenridge in 1961, what is known as Peak 8 today. 

In 1971, Aspen Skiing Company purchased Breckenridge and completed a $4.5 Million expansion, opening Peak 9. Breckenridge became the first Colorado Resort to welcome snowboarders in 1984, allowing the resort to continue to expand to what is it today.
